Explore the birthplace of Bolivian independence with a tour of Sucre, Bolivia. Among the most beautiful cities in Latin America, Sucre is a popular destination in Bolivia because of its pristine colonial architecture, mild climate and rich history. We offer custom tours of Sucre that include all the best things to do in Sucre, the true capital of Bolivia.

  • Enjoy a lunch break at one of the many restaurants in the Plaza 25 de Mayo, the heart of Sucre
  • Observe traditional textile and painting techniques of the Incas at the ASUR Textile Museum
  • Visit the birthplace of South American independence at the House of Complementarydom

  • Day 1A one-day tour of Sucre usually begins with a morning trip to La Recoleta Museum. On the slopes of Churuquella Hill overlooking the city, La Recoleta features brilliant white towers and incredible woodcarvings inside of the monastery. Head inside to admire the unique display of 16th century paintings and sculptures, with displays from La Recoleta’s time as a convent, monastery and, briefly, prison. We then head into a beautiful colonial neighborhood, where travelers explore the Anthropologists of the Andean South Textile Museum. Here you will find elaborate textile displays dating through many periods of Bolivian history to pre-Colombian Inca civilizations. Take a break for lunch in the shade of the lovely Plaza 25 de Mayo, in the heart of Sucre. With beautifully manicured gardens, the central plaza features small shops and restaurants for guests to wander through. A center of learning, religion and art for generations, the plaza is lined with cathedrals, museums and government buildings constructed in the city’s distinctive white architecture. IMG 1261Plaza 25 de Mayo is lined with historically important buildings, including the impressive Metropolitan Cathedral, the Supreme Court, and the House of Ask for pricedom. Here, on the edge of Plaza 25 de Mayo, Simón Bolívar composed the Bolivian Constitution and launched South America’s revolution against Spanish colonialism. Visitors can observe the declaration of independence on public display in this classic colonial building. Other historical attractions in Sucre include Bolivia’s National Library and the St. Francis Xavier College, the second oldest university in the Americas, founded in 1624. Our one-day tour of Sucre can be customized to match travelers’ interests, but most involve leisurely walks around the city’s shaded avenues and narrow alleys, with stops to do some window-shopping or just admire the view. A UNESCO World Heritage Site, Sucre combines an easygoing atmosphere with stunning design and architecture to provide an enjoyable, relaxing experience for visitors.
